In honor of Veterans Day 2015, we at Danmer would like to thank the proud men and women who have represented the United States in all branches of our armed forces. Without their dedication and the sacrifices they have made for the common good, the United States would not be the proud nation that it is today.
Did you know that the national holiday we celebrate this week was originally created to mark the end of World War I on November 11th, 1918? Specifically it marks the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning—the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918.
However much has changed in the observance of this sacred holiday over the years. This day was originally declared “Armistice Day,” with the holiday set aside to honor those who lost their lives in “the great war,” as WW1 was called. We were asked to remember November 11th as a day to enjoy the peace our nation had found and had hoped would follow. Nearly 40 years later (in 1947), the holiday was renamed “Veterans Day,” and would be repurposed to honor American soldiers who’ve served in any of America’s conflicts.

Halloween is here, and decorating your home to be ‘spooky’ can be fun for you and your whole family. Adding that “wow” factor to your Halloween display can turn your home into a real neighborhood showcase.
So, what are the best ways to keep up with the “Munsters” in creating a truly creepy, yet tasteful experience for your kids and your neighbors? Keep your main focus on your home’s exterior and entryway. The first thing that your trick-or-treaters see on their way to your front door is crucial in setting the mood for your ghoulish gathering. Here are three simple tips to help you get started:
EXTERIOR “HORROR” LIGHTING. The right lights positioned at just the right angle (typically from below), can help create a creepy ambiance!
WEBS. Pre-packaged or homemade webs are budget friendly, and effective! Using large webs strategically placed can have a ghostly and fun effect, while getting your visitors into the Halloween spirit.
SCARY WINDOWS. Silhouetted window decorations can be accomplished for pennies on the dollar. Draping a few bats along your shutters, or using spooky skeletons to peer out of your other window coverings can make for a very frightful sight indeed!
Remember the basics while adding your own personal flair, and you just may end up with the most haunted house on the block!
