In honor of Veterans Day 2015, we at Danmer would like to thank the proud men and women who have represented the United States in all branches of our armed forces. Without their dedication and the sacrifices they have made for the common good, the United States would not be the proud nation that it is today.
Did you know that the national holiday we celebrate this week was originally created to mark the end of World War I on November 11th, 1918? Specifically it marks the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning—the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918.
However much has changed in the observance of this sacred holiday over the years. This day was originally declared “Armistice Day,” with the holiday set aside to honor those who lost their lives in “the great war,” as WW1 was called. We were asked to remember November 11th as a day to enjoy the peace our nation had found and had hoped would follow. Nearly 40 years later (in 1947), the holiday was renamed “Veterans Day,” and would be repurposed to honor American soldiers who’ve served in any of America’s conflicts.
