The temperature is dropping and the leaves are falling that can only mean one thing. It’s almost Halloween! One of the fun things about Halloween is decorating and this means sliding glass doors too. You put a lot of thought into your window coverings all year long but as the holidays come, starting with Halloween it’s time to get creative. Here are some great ideas for spookifying your sliding glass doors.
Swap out Window Treatments
For a fun look on the inside and outside of your home, consider swapping out window treatments for the holidays. It is inexpensive and simple to change out curtains and valances. For Halloween select black, orange or red fabric. Some will even have spooky designs like witches, ghosts and pumpkins. When Halloween is over, just box up the special curtains or valances and store with your other holiday decorations.
If you don’t want to change out your window treatments, there are still plenty of fun things you can do to decorate. Check out local stores for fun removable stickers that will attach to sliding glass doors. Make spooky eyes in all front sliding glass doors so the home looks like a monster from the front. Black spider webs will add a scary feel as well, and is even better if you add a few spiders dangling from the webs. It’s not too hard to spook out your neighbors with some shadows that will make them wonder what is lurking inside. Put a scary figure, like a witch or zombie, inside near the door so when the lights are off it casts a life-like shadow.
You can even find window paint and get artistic. First sketch the design out on paper and then transfer the design onto your sliding glass door. Window paint is inexpensive and comes off easily when you’re done with it. Of course by the time you wash off the pumpkin, it will almost be time to start decorating for Thanksgiving!
