Danmer’s interior shutters have a wider louver width than traditional narrow louver shutters available from other manufacturers. Considered a more contemporary window treatment, our interior louvered shutters are a favorite of homeowners and design professionals throughout California.
Older style, traditional louvered window shutters had smaller louvers, typically from 1 ¼" up to 1 7/8”. Most of todays’ Danmer’s Custom Plantation Shutters have wider louvers, ranging in width from 2 ½" to 3 ½" to 4½".
Wider shutter louvers add elegance to rectangular windows of any size and add to the architectural detail of specialty shaped windows throughout your home.
Larger, wider louver blades on Danmer's plantation shutters means there are fewer louvers required on a window or door, so they are less distracting to the eye, offering a less obstructed view out of your windows. Our larger 3 1/2" and 4 1/2" louvers are especially suited for larger windows.
The older style traditional louvered shutters were typically designed for narrow panel sizes approximately 24” or less. These are often found in the North Eastern region of the country where windows are smaller. If you have small windows to cover, Danmer’s 2 1/2" louvers are perfect for windows of this size.
The traditional all-wood shutter with 1¼” louvers is the “original” shutter style that was built for decades throughout the 19th and 20th Century . It’s the classic louver size associate with older homes in the South and Southeastern United States. Our 1¼” louvers wood shutters are available with all the customization options of our other interior shutters.
Plantation Shutters evolved from the old plantations established in the 18th century throughout the Southern United States. These homes featured wider wooden louvers than traditional narrow shutter louvers typically found on Shutters in the North Eastern region of the country. The narrower louvers in the Northern U.S. were meant to retain more heat in the houses which were a lot colder in those Northern climates.
Later during California’s population boom in the 1950's, since heat retention in the house was not an issue, homeowners wanted a better view with bigger windows. Manufacturers built thousands of homes with large windows and regularly used wide louvered interior plantation shutters to cover them.
